Danuta Highet

Danuta is an engineer, inventor, and artist at heart. Her creative journey began with a deeply personal mission: to help her brilliant daughter Katherine, who is on the autism spectrum, find her voice through art. What started as a mother’s fierce determination to support her daughter’s growth has blossomed into a shared lifelong passion. Danuta immersed herself in painting, pottery, and many other art forms, often taking lessons alongside Katherine so she could adapt techniques and create a learning environment perfectly suited to her daughter’s unique needs. In 2020, Danuta and Katherine moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where they discovered Jane’s Art Studio. Since then, they have become inseparable partners in clay—hand-building vessels and sculptures, frequently working side by side. Today, Katherine creates beautiful pieces independently or with minimal guidance, a powerful testament to years of patient, joyful collaboration. Although Danuta first turned to art as a way to teach, she has since discovered profound joy in the act of creation itself and in sharing their work with others. Each piece they make—whether together or individually—remains an adventure in discovery. Along the way, Danuta has realized that while she set out to teach Katherine, her daughter has been teaching her just as much in return. Through art, mother and daughter continue to learn, grow, and inspire one another every single day.
